Tim Matlick holds an M.Ed. in education from Northeastern State University (Oklahoma) and a B.S.E. in K-12 Physical Education from John Brown University (Arkansas). He taught and coached in a boarding high school for nine years before transitioning into business for a decade, all while continuing to coach both high school soccer and club teams. After this period, he returned to education, serving Colorado charter schools for over 20 years as a school board member and principal. Before joining Jefferson Academy, he worked as the 2nd Charter School Liaison (Community Superintendent) for Jeffco Public Schools, where he oversaw the district's 21 charter schools and contributed to board training initiatives for effective governance. Additionally, Tim provided financial consulting to various charter schools to enhance their fiscal health. He also played a pivotal role in establishing the Jeffco Charter School Consortium (JCSC), was a founder and first Co-Chair of the Colorado Association of Charter School Authorizers (CACSA), and served as treasurer and president of the Board for the Colorado League of Charter Schools (CLCS), where he often engaged in organizational speaking to promote charter education. Tim's wife, Ruth, was a high school English teacher before becoming an adjunct instructor for colleges in Arkansas and Colorado. Tim's daughters are both graduates of JA; one has remained in the area to focus on music, while the other moved to Arizona to pursue her passion for the outdoors.
