My 40+ professional years have been a wonderful adventure, filled with learning and refined experience, leading to success along the way. Now that I understand a few things, I’m retiring—but not quitting yet. I would love the opportunity to assist leaders and Board members in excelling at building great schools while avoiding my early mistakes. My goal is to provide board training consulting that helps school leaders and Boards grow in effectiveness, problem-solving, and learning outcomes to ensure excellent schools for all students, which drives Building Leaders Now!
Most studies of Educational Leadership focus on the academic aspects, and providing a great education is indeed our first duty. The schools where I held leadership positions did provide excellent educations for their students. However, the business of education and sustained effective leadership—especially regarding financial stability in education—makes or breaks most school districts and certainly most charter schools.
While I am not opposed to discussing curriculum integrity, data guidance, and other academic topics, my passion is to empower educators through school leadership development. I aim to help them become great leaders who can see and solve problems while unifying their staff in the focus of their academic program.

I truly love to help leaders succeed, particularly in the context of school leadership development. I’ve engaged in formal mentoring of Principals and provided informal consulting and troubleshooting when leaders needed anything from clarification to long-term consulting through difficult situations. My services include board training consulting, which focuses on enhancing governance and ensuring financial stability in education. Additionally, I offer ongoing monthly mentoring to support continuous growth and development for leadership teams.

Having served on several boards myself, I understand the importance of an informed and well-functioning board. Utilizing Robert's Rules of Order 'light' alongside Colorado Sunshine Laws, I have effectively collaborated with various boards. Additionally, I have provided board training consulting and served as an advisor to Board Presidents, Chairpeople, and members on enhancing financial stability in education. My focus also extends to school leadership development, ensuring that Presidents, Chairpersons, and Executive Leaders receive ongoing consulting for sustained excellence.

For 10 years, I was in business, working my way up from Salesperson to CEO. As a Charter School Leader, I successfully transformed two schools from severe financial pressure to financial stability in education and even surplus. In my role as a Community Superintendent, I guided schools through start-up issues, budget challenges, and special program development. While serving as the Executive Director of a charter school network, I continued my commitment to school leadership development by meeting with and supporting principals, business managers, and Board presidents across Colorado to help them understand and solve their challenges. Additionally, I offer board training consulting and individual consulting for CFOs and business managers, as well as ongoing consulting for Board Treasurers and Executive Leaders.

As Community Superintendent of Charter Schools overseeing 21 charter schools on 25 campuses, I established procedures to help the District refine its process of approving and renewing Charter School contracts. This included annual charter school reviews and the ongoing challenge of fostering collaboration between district staff and charter staff to resolve differences and enhance effectiveness. I was also part of the founding team and served as the first Co-Chair of the Colorado Association for Charter School Authorizers, which focused on board training consulting to help districts develop effective authorizing processes. Additionally, I emphasized the importance of financial stability in education and supported school leadership development initiatives to further strengthen our charter schools.

I have worked with multiple homeschool programs, from the start-up process to achieving great success. Homeschooling is one of the fastest-growing movements in the educational landscape, yet it remains one of the least understood models. Understanding homeschool law, public student funding, and the needs of homeschool families is essential for establishing or leading a successful public homeschool program. This includes board training consulting to ensure effective governance and financial stability in education. Individual consultation with decision-makers and ongoing steering committee consulting are vital for fostering school leadership development.

As a Conference Speaker, Graduation Speaker, and Beginning of the Year Staff Speaker, I embrace opportunities that aim to motivate personal and professional growth. Education is a challenging yet highly rewarding field. Through board training consulting, I help leaders, teachers, and staff refocus on the key essentials that not only support students but also promote financial stability in education by 'filling teachers' buckets.' This approach is crucial in reducing turnover. Starting the year with a unified vision or refocusing on what is important mid-way through ensures that staff and leadership are aligned in their direction, ultimately increasing student outcomes and fostering strong parent partnerships. I also conduct Professional Development sessions that emphasize school leadership development and effective presentations.
