Services

 My 40+ professional years have been a wonderful adventure, filled with learning and refined experience, leading to success along the way. And now that I understand a few things, I’m retiring…but not quitting yet. I would love the opportunity to help leaders, Board members excel at building great schools while avoiding my early mistakes. Helping school leaders and Boards grow in effectiveness, problem solving and learning outcomes to ensure excellent schools for all students is 

what drives Building Leaders Now!   


Most studies of Educational Leadership focus on the academic aspects. And providing a great education is, indeed, our first duty. The schools where I held positions of leadership did provide excellent educations for their students. But the business of education and sustained effective leadership makes or breaks most school districts and certainly most charter schools.


So while I am not opposed to discussing curriculum integrity, data guidance, and other academic topics, my passion is to empower educators to be great leaders, learn to see and solve problems while unifying their staff in the focus of their academic program.

 Order “light” and Colorado Sunshine Laws, I have not only worked well under very different Boards, but have also served on boards and advised other Board Presidents, Chairpeople, and members.

Financial Consulting

 For 10 years, I was in business, working my way up from Salesperson to CEO. As a Charter School Leader, I took two schools from severe financial pressure to financial stability and even surplus. As a Community Superintendent, I also guided schools through start-up issues, budget issues, and special program development. Even while serving as the Executive Director of a charter school network, I continued meeting with and supporting principals, 

business managers and Board presidents across Colorado to help understand and solve their challenges.

District Authorizer Consulting

 As Community Superintendent of Charter Schools overseeing 21 charter schools on 25 campuses, I set up procedures to help the District refine its process of approving/renewing Charter School contracts, annual charter school reviews and the on-going challenge of finding paths that allowed district staff and charter staff to work together while resolving differences and increasing effectiveness. I also was on the founding team and first Co-Chair of the Colorado Association for Charter School Authorizers which focused on helping 

districts establish and work through the processes to increase their 

effectiveness as authorizers.

 I have worked with multiple Homeschool programs, some from the start-up process, and all through to great success. Homeschooling is one of the fastest growing movements in the educational landscape but one of the least understood models. Understanding homeschool law, public student funding and homeschool families is essential to establishing or leading 

a successful public homeschool program.

Organizational Speaking

 Conference Speaker, Graduation Speaker, Beginning of the Year Staff Speaker: all are opportunities I enjoy, always with the goal of motivating personal and professional growth.  Education is a difficult and yet very rewarding business.  Helping leaders, teachers and staff refocus on the key essentials that both support students and “fill teachers buckets” is key to reducing turnover.  Starting the year with a unified vision or refocusing on what is important mid-way through a year ensures staff and leadership are headed 

in the same direction, increasing student outcomes and building parent partnerships.
